I was chatting with The Mac Daddy today – he knows who he is!! I have decided to create Greeting Cards out of all the Affirmation Art designs and he has been converting my files for this purpose. I did a small run of cards back in May and they sold out in two days. Lord knows why I haven’t produced them again since, especially as people have been asking for them. Anyhoo….that is beside the point. Back to the point. Mac Daddy and I were discussing the ‘irregularities’ in my designs. In other words, they are not graphically perfect. Far from it. But, that is kinda what we like about them. Although they have been designed on a computer, they lack the perfection of most graphic artwork. They are more organic and real. We like it like that. Then, the Mac Daddy said, ‘Ah, the beauty of imperfection!’ Yes! Exactly. I love that quote. Wish I could tell you who first said it. So simple and so true. The Mac Daddy then got ‘deep’ and said, ‘Take our Christmas tree for example. I purposely bought a bent, dodgy looking one. More interesting than the perfect trees that everyone buys. Anyway, trees aren’t meant to be ‘f***ing’ straight and perfect!’ On hearing his words of wisdom, which ALMOST match the depth of beauty and simplicity of the original quote – almost – I decided this must feature in today’s blog. Clearly!
On further reflection and thought I realised on several levels just how right he is. Imperfection really is beautiful. If you think about the people you love, I bet the top things you love about them are actually quirks of character. Funny habits. An odd physical feature perhaps. Oh, my funny valentine….!
As it happens, my Bag List contains a few goals which, if I am honest, mean I am possibly expecting perfection of myself. High expectations of self have their place but they can also be incredibly limiting and a cause to delay or avoid even beginning a goal, let alone completing it. A nice reminder me thinks.
As for the cards – they were on the Bag List and they are on their way, in all their imperfect beauty!
