Do you know what I love about being self employed? Being able to work from wherever I like, in whatever style I like. Sometimes I am in an office, sometimes a cafe, sometimes at my kitchen table, sometimes the studio. Today the sun was shining so I sat on the back-step to work. It’s my favourite spot! I wore my favourite old jeans and woolly socks. I drank cup after cup of tea. I rolled out a big sheet of paper to brain-dump all my thoughts and organise my notes for the workshop I am running next weekend. I had the sun on my face as I worked. I was in my element.
After a few days of finding self employment tough, it felt so great to experience the positives today. I even enjoyed the fact that it was a bank holiday, allowing me to go into my creative bubble and really focus on one project without distraction because no-one was calling or e-mailing.
Working from home meant that I was there when Finn returned from Football Club, allowing us to hang out together for the afternoon. The best of both worlds.
I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have work I love that allows me to be at home a lot, with Finn. Feels good to design my work around my highest values – my son and my home.
