Today’s newsletter is the second of a ten-week series inspiring you to create happiness in your day-to-day life.
The 10 tips I am sharing with you were passed down to me by my 100yr old Grandad. He knew what he was talking about and I invite you to adopt one of his ‘happiness rules’ today.
“Get plenty of sleep & rest”
This week’s #beGrandad tip is all about getting the sleep you need.
I love Arianna Huffington’s mini TED talk on the subject so I have shared her really light and humorous video below.
When I was an anxious and easily overwhelmed little girl, my Grandad would always say, “Katie, you need a good sleep”. Today, I understand the wisdom of those words and will often go to bed at the same time as my 7 yr old son to be sure to get a solid 8 hours sleep and then feel able to wake well before him so that I can journal, meditate and intend my day ahead.
Sleep allows me to enjoy my Spiritual Practice which in-turn gives me high vibrational energy for my day.
5 reasons to give yourself permission to sleep
• Sleep has VALUE! It is not a waste of time – you waste time when you are tired;
• Sleep guarantees a more productive, more inspired, more joyful life;
• You are able to see the big picture after a 7 or 8 hour sleep so you can stop sweating the small stuff;
• Life feels easier and more manageable after a good sleep;
• It’s ‘so yesterday’ to compete over lack of sleep – it’s much cooler to be rested, vibrant and inspired!
‘Give it to God’
I invite you to get to bed super early tonight. Create a beautiful bedtime routine that makes you feel nurtured, safe and loved.
For me, that looks like:
• a hot bath with candles
• light inspirational reading
• no screen-time after 8pm on weekdays
• writing in my gratitude journal
• cosy PJ’s!
• a decision before I sleep that I am handing over my problems to God, knowing that I am held safe and protected – always!
What will you commit to in order to get a good night’s sleep?
Here’s to you having a more productive and happy life on the back of plenty of well earned rest (and maybe even some daytime naps!?).
Next week, we will explore the importance of humor – stay tuned!
Big love,
Katie xx

THIS WEEK’S VIDEO
In this short video, Arianna Huffington shares a small idea that can awaken much bigger ones: the power of a good night’s sleep. Instead of bragging about our sleep deficits, she urges us to shut our eyes and see the big picture.
SELF-LOVE IN ACTION
Self-Love is all about giving yourself permission to rest, nurture and rejuvenate! I am committed to getting a minimum of 8 hours sleep a night with a nurturing bed-time routine that nearly always involves a bath & candles!
