A FRIEND INDEED!

Katie Phillips and Jennie Harland-KhanI am having minor separation anxiety. My best mate is headed to Australia with her family tomorrow for 6 weeks! They are taking the kids out of school for some life experience and quality family bonding involving middle of no-where camping, fishing, swimming and sunshine. I am totally in awe of their trip – not least because they do this every single year! – and will admit to being a little more than jealous. It’s just SO daring and mighty and I want to go too!

When I met Jen it was love at first sight. Truly! We just ‘got’ each-other straight away and within the first hour of chatting we were trying to work out ways of working together. That was 10 years ago. Our lives have significantly changed since then and finally we are on a path that is enabling us to joint venture, starting with our ‘Fine To Fabulous’ workshops.

We both work on our own, running our own businesses. I can’t tell you how lucky I feel to have my best mate on the same page as me, allowing us to support each-other in the highs and lows that come with stepping out on your own, following your heart and trying every day to be truly authentic while helping others at the same time. Some days are tough and I know she will always be there to remind me of all the reasons I decided to do what I am doing and all the reasons why I ‘can’ do it. I like to think I do the same for her. Just the other day, for no reason at all, Jen sent me a long list of the top 20 gifts she believes I possess that perhaps I didn’t realise and perhaps can’t believe others don’t naturally have too. I received this list on my I-Phone while standing in a line at Costa Coffee – my ‘other’ office! The e-mail bought tears to my eyes because it was just so selfless and thoughtful and exactly what I needed to hear at the perfect time. How lucky am I to have a friend like that?

Jen & I worked side-by-side today, on our own projects. While we both squirrelled away I felt very aware of how blessed I am to have such a good friend. She isn’t just a girlfriend, she’s ‘Auntie Jen’ to my son, my confidante, my coach and my colleague. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t always roses between us. We have had a few scraps and disagreements but they have only made our friendship stronger.

So, today I am sending big love to my friend. It feels good to recognise her.

Maybe you have a special friend you want to recognise today?
