I was listening to Bear Grylls on Radio One today. He was being interviewed about his ‘Mud, Sweat & Tears’ live tour. The guy is unstoppable. His incredible feats of human endurance and extreme adventure are more than noteworthy but now his life experiences have been monetized making him a global brand boasting books, tv shows, a clothing line, accessory ranges and now a live tour allowing you to get up close and personal with this extraordinary human being. The whole industry around him is remarkable. What I think is even better though is that he seems pretty normal and unaffected by all the hype. I don’t know him. Have never met him. But, he seems so grounded. He showed up at Radio One today with his three kids in tow. A day out with Dad! Brilliant.
What struck me today was just how much people are looking for inspiration. They (me included) are yearning for stories of normal people achieving the impossible. Hearing their stories lights us up and makes us, even if just for a moment, believe that anything is possible. Perhaps we could really, truly be able to climb our own everest. Do that one thing we have always dreamed of.
When I log onto Facebook I am bombarded daily by inspirational quotes, stories, images and video that people are sharing with each-other around the globe. People want to be inspired and when they feel inspired they feel a need to share it with others. It’s kinda nice. It’s unifying to know that we all want to live an inspirational life. We have that in common.
Today Bear said something brilliant – “The fire within is the critical element for survival”. Nailed it. His authenticity gives that line even more power. Although he is talking about mortal survival having subjected himself to extremely dangerous conditions and situations, on another level and what we relate to is the fire that is crucial for us to live an inspired life. With all our negative chatter, limiting beliefs, bad habits and so on, knowing our dream – let alone living it – can sometimes feel totally and utterly impossible. But, if you have faith and trust in yourself and the universe and allow that power to really fire you up, that fire will give you the confidence, energy and drive to go get what you want. It’s inspiring, don’t you think?
Very very daring and mighty. Love it.
I took the image above from Bear’s official web-site. You should check it out – pretty impressive. http://beargrylls.com
