I would like to share a quick tip with you today that will help you to stop rushing and slow down.
Before I do, let me level with you!
I am very guilty of having a brain that is always set to ‘rush’ mode! I have a dictator in my head that’s constantly pushing me to go faster and achieve more. It’s a fast and incessant voice. It’s always running a list of things for me to do – a list that I feel is always impossible to complete. Just when I think I have ticked everything off the list, 10 more things magically seem to get added.
Can you relate?
Self love requires self compassion and acceptance. I have a lot of awareness around why I am programmed in this way. Over the years, I have managed to calm the dictator in my head using my proven Self-Love Affair transformational process. Not least, I have healed the anxiety and depression that resulted from years of operating on ‘stressed out autopilot’!
That said, my mind can still have me jump through hoops so I am armed with tools that lovingly support me to slow down and be kind to myself.
My most favourite tool is one that I bet will support you.
Check it out:
> STEP ONE
Choose to get conscious to your thoughts throughout the day. Get familiar with the tone of the voice in your head and specifically what it’s saying to you. Notice the thoughts that are supporting you. Notice the thoughts that are causing you to feel panicked, rushed, not good enough and stressed. Notice how your thoughts make you feel.
> STEP TWO
Talk to yourself as if you are a little girl. Remind yourself that you are not your thoughts, that you are doing your best, that your best is good enough, that no-one will suffer or die if you can’t get everything done, that you are deciding what appears on your ‘to-do’ list and that you can always shorten your list or change the due dates of each item. Remind yourself that the dictator in your head is just a habit – a learned and very practiced way of being. Choose to remember there is always another way to do life and that habits can be broken.
> STEP THREE
Write a vow in your journal around the habits you are ready to be free from and how you desire to behave instead. Write about how you desire to feel instead. Then choose some affirmations that can support you. Something like:
“I am loveable just as I am”
“I am secure just as I am”
“I love to be gentle with myself”
“I can surrender”
“I choose to be kind to myself today”
“I choose to go slow today”
“Everything always works out for me”
“I am enough, just as I am”
Use your affirmations to support you through the day. They will act as a reminder to be kind and gentle to yourself and they will immediately take you off the unconscious treadmill of life and redirect you to a more calm and far more conscious way of being. Remember, we feel our thinking. So, if you are feeling stressed and hurried then your route to calm and peace is to notice your thoughts and choose thoughts that lovingly support the way you desire to feel.
You are in charge of you.
