I have some big questions to ask you today. Brace yourself!
Having just completed my Independent Funeral Celebrant Training – which means I am now qualified to conduct non-religious and non-atheist (humanist) funeral services – I am feeling incredibly humbled by the uniqueness of every human life.
It’s my belief that every woman has the ability to live ‘Daring & Mighty’ that had me found ‘The School of Self Love’. Becoming a celebrant is an extension of that – something I have been humbly called to.
Much of my training was learning how to craft beautiful, authentic and heart warming stories that celebrate the entirety of someone’s life.
Today I invite you to write your own eulogy or if you want to take it another step, ask a friend to do it for you.
Here’s how :
- Set aside at least an hour, if not two, with yourself or a friend. If you are with a friend, have them interview you (using guiding points below). Whoever writes the eulogy will need these notes.
- Write down all of your most poignant, important, heartfelt memories. Consider key accomplishments and achievements.
- Write down the people who have been important to you, the people you have loved and who have loved you.
- Perhaps include your love story – how did you meet your soul mate?
- If you are a mumma, reflect on what your children mean to you and what you mean to them. Add special stand-out memories of times spent together.
- Write about happy times in childhood, schooling, teenage years, jobs, interests, hobbies, talents, likes, dislikes.
- What phrases or behaviours are you known for?
- What / who makes you laugh?
- What are you particularly passionate about?
- You could call some friends and ask for their reflections on you too.
Write a 15 minute tribute to yourself that’s uplifting, passionate and inspiring.
You could extend this exercise into the future. So, your Eulogy could be applicable to your life lived up until this day – 19th Jan 2020 – or you could set a date far in the future when you are a wise old woman who has lived a complete life and vision what the next years will hold for you and include that in your eulogy. Essentially you are writing a celebration of what has been and what is to come – it’s a magical manifesting tool for sure!
If you do this, I urge you to include a copy with your will – it just might help the people you love to celebrate you and your life even more fully when that day finally comes. Because it is coming.
Why am I asking you to do this?
I desire for you to live intentionally. I desire for you to have an impact on this planet and the people you love in a way that has you feel proud. I desire for you to suck the marrow out of life because in the great words of Theodore Roosevelt :
“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those timid spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”
Dare Mighty Things.
